It’s no surprise that South Panola (with four star Darius Barksdale leading the way) is our unanimous preseason #1 team this year in our large schools poll. The Tigers open up on the road against Warren Central in the Red Carpet Bowl on Thursday. Their opponent in week #2, Clarksdale (with Charles Mitchell), is our #2 team to begin the season. The Wildcats also open their season at the Red Carpet Bowl, playing Friday against Vicksburg. Rounding out the top 5 are Wayne County at #3, and Olive Branch and George County begin the season tied at #4. Defending 3A Champion Franklin County starts the season at the #11 spot, the highest out of all 3A teams. In the small schools poll, West Bolivar begins the season ranked #1. They open up against class 4A Cleveland in what should be a tough week one test. #2 Baldwyn also starts their season playing a team in a higher classification, when they play Friday against class 3A Booneville. Taylorsville is ranked #3, while defending class 1A champion Puckett holds down the #4 spot. Enterprise-Clarke finishes off the top 5 at #5. Jackson Prep is the highest-ranked private school in our small school poll, ranked at #8. Some of the biggest matchups that take place between ranked teams this week include a showdown between #3 Wayne County and #4 George County. #6 Picayune tangles with #12 Moss Point in another game between two top 15 teams. In our small school poll, #6 Mize takes on takes on Raleigh, #3 in class 3A. Without further ado, here is your 2007 Preseason MST Football Poll!
