Local Ath Talks Southern Miss Offer

Southern Miss is working on putting the finishing touches to an important week leading up to signing day. Today, they made an offer to a talented local athlete. He talked about the offer and where he stands in this interview with GoldenEaglePride.com.

Jamez Applewhite, talented "do it all" athlete from Bassfield, MS, received some good news today.

"Coach Duggan came by the school and they made an offer official to me today," he told GoldenEaglePride.com this afternoon.

"I'm excited, I've always liked Southern Miss, I went to camps there back in the spring and they always said that they liked what I can do."

Applewhite had a great finish to his senior year, helping his team to a state championship.

"It was fun to go out with a bang," he said. "I was proud of our team because we worked really hard to get to that point. We have a great senior class and we wanted to go out with a state championship."

Applewhite also said how the Eagle staff planned to use him if he were to come on board.

"They like me a lot at cornerback," he said. "I've played every position, so I'm fine with playing defense.

"I'm going to take a visit this weekend and I'll know a lot more after that."

Jamez is also hearing from Junior Colleges, and said he's heard from ULL as well. Coach Duggan has known and liked him for many years, going back to his time at Southern Miss.
