Brooks has part of a very stingy defensive unit led by a very physical defensive line.
The rising senior believes his Brandon squad has the chance to be very good this fall.
"This group can be really good," said Brooks. "We just have to keep a good work ethic.
"If we do that, then I feel like we can get back to state and hopefully win state."
Brooks reports that his team was eager to get back to work and wash the bitter taste of defeat out of their mouthes after falling to South Panola in the 6A state title game.
"All of that has motivated us to do better," said Brooks. "We really need to keep working hard to get better.
"This spring I am working on getting faster and stronger and I want do a better job with my footwork."
Many high school defensive ends bulk up and slide inside, but Brooks has the chance to stay out on the edge.
"I really like playing defensive end," said Brooks. "I like trying to get to the quarterback and jumping and beating down balls."
A quartert of college programs have recently been in touch with the talented Brooks.
"I went to Mississippi State's camp. They told me that they were going to be watching me and that they wanted me to keep working hard to get faster, stronger and more agile."
Brooks reports that he plans to major in either architectural engineering or forensics.
